ONCE UPON A TIME…
…so goes the beginning of some timeless & cherished tales that have been passed down from generation to generation. These words quickly bring to mind the telling of a story and the adventures of the characters involved. Each story is unique and each character has a special role to play. Sometimes there are happy times and sometimes challenges- but it IS a story and it is meant to be shared.
Your pregnancy and childbirth journey is YOUR story and it has yet to be written. Unlike the fairy tales, your story is REAL and it is personal. You & your baby are the main characters but you can also be a co-author. Together with your physician or midwife, you have the unique opportunity to take the pen and help to create the adventure.
But before you start writing… DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
- Read all you can to make educated decisions and to care for yourself as best you can throughout your pregnancy. Nutrition, sleep and proper medical care are the foundation for building a healthy pregnancy. However, your body is going through many changes that may leave you feeling anything but healthy. From morning sickness, to varicose veins and heartburn, you may find yourself facing some “thorny” days; but remember that your amazing body was made to do this and your symptoms are temporary.
- Take classes to prepare for the big day! With many hospitals cancelling classes due to COVID19, many moms find themselves at a loss for personal instruction and are turning to You Tube and Google for information. Instead, at Once Upon a Lullaby, you can learn from an experienced labor & delivery nurse, certified childbirth and lactation educator, mom and grandma about what to expect as you prepare to bring your little one home.
- But don’t stop there! Parenting is so much more than just the childbirth experience, and preparation involves more than just childbirth classes. In typically less than 3 days from delivery you’ll be taking home this little human and will be responsible for his care. Breastfeeding and Baby Care classes will not only provide you with knowledge but will build your confidence to succeed in your parenting role. Learn about resources in your community that can help you as you navigate the obstacles that lie ahead.
So- as you think about your story, consider where you’ll begin. Identify the characters in your childbirth story (your baby will be the star), make your plan, pick up your pen and start writing…
But instead of ONCE UPON A TIME, think….
ONCE UPON A LULLABY!
