I am honored to have been serving as a milk depot/dispensary for the last 3 years. I have met so many wonderful people and have been blessed to have partnered with the Mothers’ Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes to provide donor milk for families. But it is time for me to move on and introduce you to Melissa Schiff, who will be taking over for me.

Melissa is a board certified lactation consultant in the Oakbrook Area. She was instrumental in helping me to establish as a depot in 2019 and now has a beautiful office and practice set up in Oakbrook- ready to serve you! In addition to acting as a depot, she provides in-home, office and virtual breastfeeding consults and she is ready to support you in your breastfeeding journey.

Pasteurized banked donor human milk is recognized by the American Academy of Pediatrics as the second best form of nutrition for a premature infant, with mothers’ own milk being the gold standard.  Banked donor milk is also prescribed when baby’s mother cannot provide enough of her own milk due to low milk production, serious illness, medical treatment or medications incompatible with breastfeeding, or adoption.

Mothers’ Milk Bank WGL collects, screens, processes and distributes donated human milk. Donors are screened before milk is accepted. Once an approved donor’s frozen milk arrives at the milk bank, it is thawed, pooled with other donors and the pasteurized. After processing, the milk is tested for contamination, frozen and then stored. This milk is then primarily shipped to ordering hospitals for premature or ill babies but 20% is also made available to moms for purchase in the community- either from the milk bank directly or a partnering dispensary now including Makana Breastfeeding.

Mothers’ Milk Bank WGL also offers comprehensive and compassionate support for mothers when they wish to donate their stored breast milk after the unwelcome loss of their baby.

Contact me at 630-233-4739 if you need assistance during the transition. Tunisia at www.peacefulbirthingdoula.com in Bloomingdale is ready and able to handle all milk donations and purchases until Melissa is set up and ready.
